Browns’ Hue Jackson ‘Challenged’ Kenny Britt To ‘Step Up And Make Plays’

The Cleveland Browns are trying to put it together this season and so far has been unsuccessful. The team is 0-2 heading into Week 3 with one of their biggest free-agent acquisitions, Kenny Britt, failing to bring much to the table for the struggling franchise.

In two games with the Browns, Britt has been targeted five times and caught only two passes for 15 yards. Head coach Hue Jackson isn’t happy about the lack of production from what was expected to be his star wideout and as a result has challenged him to step it up moving forward, via Mary Cay Cabot of Cleveland.com.

“I’ve challenged him that he needs to step up and make plays, and I think he will,” Jackson said Thursday. “I really do. This is where we are. We’ve got to make some plays, and we understand that these are the guys we have. And Kenny is the elder statesman in that room, and I think he’ll raise up and help lead these young guys, and we’ll go play good this week.”

With the Browns paying Britt $17 million guaranteed on a four-year deal worth a total of $32.5 million, it’s no surprise Jackson would want more out of his best receiver. Jackson is hoping to change the culture, and he’s starting by making his players accountable.

Last season, Britt caught 68 passes on 111 targets for 1,002 yards and five touchdowns. It was Britt’s first season cracking the 1,000-yard mark and his second-highest touchdown total.
