Carson Wentz Dropped For Jalen Hurts
Just over two weeks ago, Philadelphia Eagles coach Doug Pederson said the team had no intention of benching Carson Wentz.
He was speaking after Carzon Wentz had a tough outing against the Cleveland Browns, a game Philadelphia lost 22 – 17.
“You’re sending the wrong message that your season is over,†Pederson said of potentially benching Wentz, via CBS 3’s Pat Gallen.Â
“We have to work through this. When times get tough, that might be the easy thing to do.
“No questions about it,†Pederson said, via The Athletic’s Zach Berman. “He’s our starter.â€

Since then, the Eagles have lost a further two games and Carson Wentz hasn’t looked like sparking them into form.
The 27 year old entered Sunday’s loss against the Green Bay Packers ranked first in interceptions (15) and sacks (46). With a 31st best completion percentage (58.1%) and 30th best yards per attempt (6.02), he’s having the worst season of his career.Â
Against the Packers, Wentz finished 6-of-15 for 79 yards and was sacked four times. Rookie quarterback Jalen Hurts replaced him and played better, with 5-of-12 for 109 yards, with a touchdown and one interception. Hurts also rushed five times for 29 yards.
As a result, Jalen Hurts has been named the Eagles’ starting quarterback and will start on Sunday against the Saints.

“Carson is like all of us right now, he’s disappointed. He’s frustrated,” Pederson said.Â
“He’s been a professional through it all. He supports his teammates and that’s what you want to see from him, the leader of the team. I know sometimes the quarterback gets a lot of the blame like the head coach does. It’s the good with the bad, it’s not about Carson Wentz. It’s not about one person. We know we have issues on offense and it has been a struggle for us all season. That’s where the frustration lies a little bit, but he’s been a pro and would expect nothing less.”
