Colts’ Keenan Allen Signing Comes With One Detail That Could Make It Work
The Indianapolis Colts added another proven piece to the puzzle after inking former Pro Bowl wideout Keenan Allen to a one-year deal worth up to $8.32 million.
The Colts had been improving their wide receiver room, especially after an offseason that featured the notable trade of star wideout Michael Pittman Jr. to the Pittsburgh Steelers.
The team’s new presumed No. 1 passing game option, Alex Pierce, is working through an offseason ankle surgery, which brought more attention to that part of the roster.
The 34-year-old has a strong connection with head coach Shane Steichen, as the two spent several seasons together with the Los Angeles Chargers, during which Steichen served as the offensive coordinator.
The familiarity should allow Allen to quickly fit into the mix with the offensive game plan and the playbook’s terminology.
Allen remains a productive offensive factor as he’s coming off posting 81 catches for 777 receiving yards and four touchdowns. He ranked first on the Chargers in receiving first downs (29) and catches (34) on third down.

He has the chance to immediately step into a similar role with the Colts, especially with their thin wide receiver room. His pedigree alone gives Indianapolis a proven passing game asset that Daniel Jones can lean on beyond Pierce.
Throughout his career, he has proven to be a highly consistent option, helping him rank 13th in league history with 1,055 career receptions, 70 touchdowns, and 12,051 receiving yards.
