Cavaliers’ Jarrett Allen suffers costly injury
The Cleveland Cavaliers are already feeling the effects of the injury bug with big man Jarrett Allen suffering a broken left ring finger.
The injury occurred during Wednesday’s loss to the Boston Celtics. An X-ray on Thursday revealed a non-displaced fracture that the Cavaliers believe he can undergo a series of treatments.
Allen missed Friday’s game against the Toronto Raptors, which suggests he should likely sit out Sunday’s tilt against the Atlanta Hawks. The Cavaliers will take the precautionary approach given the nature of his injury.
Through the first five games, Allen is averaging 14.0 points, 7.0 rebounds, 1.8 assists, and 1.4 steals while shooting 57.5 percent from the field in 27.0 minutes per contest. He’s scored in double figures three times, hitting 15 or more in each contest.
Star guard Donovan Mitchell could miss time as he exited Wednesday’s 112-101 loss to the Celtics early due to left hamstring tightness. He had been putting forth a productive start to the campaign, averaging a team-high 28.0 points and 4.4 assists while shooting 54.4 percent from the floor and a career-best 40.0 percent from beyond the arc.
Before facing the Celtics, Mitchell notched 20 or more points in each of the first games, including at least 30 points three times.

Cleveland is already dealing with notable injuries as starting point guard Darius Garland (toe) and forward Max Strus (foot) are both still working their way back from offseason surgery.
Heading into Sunday’s game against the Hawks, the Cavaliers hold a 3-3 record.
