Covid-19: “It’s No Longer Just On T.V”

The past week has seen the NBA arguing with itself over whether Covid-19 is worth playing games behind closed doors.

That seems a long, long time ago now that a Utah Jazz player has tested positive for Covid-19. As a result, the NBA has suspended the season indefinitely.

According to an anonymous source, the hiatus will last a minimum of two weeks. However as developments unfold, there’s no telling how long it will last, or if other sports will follow suit.

NBA players and officials, now in a Covid-19 induced limbo, have reacted to the sudden news.

“The NBA is suspending game play following the conclusion of tonight’s schedule of games until further notice,” a league statement said.

“The NBA will use this hiatus to determine next steps for moving forward in regard to the coronavirus pandemic.”

“It’s a very serious time right now,” Miami Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said.

“I think the league moved appropriately and prudently and we’ll all just have to monitor the situation and see where it goes from here.”

Charlotte Hornets coach James Borrego said “these are scary times.”

“This is surreal,” Borrego said.

“This is reality for us now. It’s no longer just on TV somewhere. This is now home.”

“This is a global pandemic where people’s lives at stake,” Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban said.

“I’m a lot more worried about my kids, and my mom is 82 years old, and talking to her, and telling her to stay in the house, than I am about when we play our next game.

“This is much bigger than basketball.”

“People are clearly taking the measures that they feel they need to take for safety,” said Heat guard Duncan Robinson, “but at the same time the NBA has to protect its players in the league and the fans.”
