Cowboys Owner Jerry Jones Won’t Make Super Bowl Predictions

The Dallas Cowboys are coming off an incredible season which ended with a controversial call during the NFL playoffs against the Green Bay Packers. Tony Romo and company were on the verge of shutting the door on the Packers with a remarkable catch by star wide receiver Dez Bryant, but the catch was overturned and as a result Green Bay went onto the NFC Championship game against the Seattle Seahawks.

With the Cowboys playing well in the postseason and falling two games short of the Super Bowl, it would be expected that outspoken owner Jerry Jones would make a prediction about his team going the distance next season. In uncharacteristic fashion, Jones chose not to go that route this time around saying the following, according to ESPN’s Todd Archer:

“Let’s don’t confuse how good we feel about our team with putting [the Super Bowl] around the neck of something that if we did know [we] could beat those kinds of odds, then life would be a lot different for all of us,” Jones said after the Salvation Army’s Inspiring Hope Luncheon at AT&T Stadium on Wednesday. “That’s a statement that is real hard to live up to. No one knows it better than we do.”

Jones may have not wanted to go the route of dubbing the Cowboys the team to beat in the NFL next season, but star quarterback went another direction last month when accepting a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Nancy Lieberman Foundation (at 8:52):

With the Cowboys losing running back DeMarco Murray in free agency to the division rival Philadelphia Eagles, Dallas may no longer be the dominant running threat they were last season putting more pressure on the passing game.

Veteran back Darren McFadden signed with the team in the offseason, but he’s a far cry from the talent level of Murray and the impact he had on the offense. McFadden may be able to turn the corner next year after a disappointing stint with the Oakland Raiders, especially with the solid offensive line in Dallas.

Regardless of whether the Cowboys can maintain a strong running attack without Murray, Dallas is expected to be one of the best teams in the league next season. The Cowboys are currently have 7/1 odds to win the NFC Conference, according to Sportsbook.ag.
