Dak Prescott Contract Had McCarthy Doing Cartwheels
Dallas Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy is excited about what’s to come from quarterback Dak Prescott, and with good reason.
Dak Prescott signed a new long term contract when McCarthy was on vacation in Florida earleir this month.
“It’s a lot easier to do cartwheels on the sand, I’ll say that,” McCarthy said Thursday.Â
“Obviously I was very excited.”
That’s understandable, considering how much better the Cowboys’ offense is with Dak Prescott under center.

The team has had to cope without Prescott for a year due to a serious injury, and the difference is stark. With him, the offense ranked third in the league for points and first in yards. Without him, they were 23rd in points and 27th in yards.
Before he got injured, Prescott threw nine touchdowns and four interceptions, with a QBR of 78.7.Â
Not only will Prescott’s presence be felt on the field, it will also be felt in the locker room according to McCarthy.
“Dak is the keystone of this team,” McCarthy said.Â
“I’m excited about Year 2 on offense. In a lot of ways, we didn’t feel like we got to have a Year 1. “His presence and natural leadership ability is something that will continue to grow,” McCarthy added.Â
“You’ll see that in the locker room.”

“Quarterbacks are clearly protected more, that’s why you see wide-open offenses,” he continued.Â
“I don’t think it’s going to be a huge adjustment for him. I don’t think he needs to lower his shoulder and stiff-arm maybe as much.
“Jerry [Jones] probably wants him to run out of bounds every play. He just has to be more mindful of it. I don’t ever try to make a statement to a player that may make him hesitate. Hesitation in the NFL, you’re a step slower than your opponent and that can potentially put you in a worse position.”
