Eagles host Cowboys in Early Season NFC East Showdown
One of the biggest rivalries in the NFL kicks off Sunday afternoon in the city of brotherly love when the Philadelphia Eagles host the Dallas Cowboys in an early season NFC East showdown.
These two are the favorites to win the division, but Dallas comes in as a decided underdog.
Dallas is 8-1 straight up and 7-2 against the spread over its past 9 games on the road including an incredible 8-0 SU on the road last year during the regular season.
The current line has Philadelphia favored by 5 points with the over/under point total sitting on 55 points.
Dallas is 4-0 ATS over its past four games as a dog of -3.5 or more with three outright wins of the four. The Cowboys are 6-1 SU over its past seven games played.
Dallas is coming off a thrilling win over the New York Giants last week 27-26.
While the Cowboys were happy to have their win, the game revealed a few negatives. The running game only gained 80 yards on the night. At the same time, Dez Bryant the Cowboys’ top receiver injured his foot and will be out at least 8 weeks and possibly more.
Bryant had successful foot surgery during the week.
Philadelphia could not shake off a poor first half last week versus Atlanta and eventually lost 26-24. The Eagles were down at the half 20-3 but were able to battle back and led 24-23 during the middle of the fourth. Atlanta was able to score a field goal on the ensuing drive and that ended up being the difference.
Philadelphia at home is 10-3 SU and 8-4-1 ATS during the past 13 games dating back to last season.
The UNDER has cashed in 6 of the past 9 games between the Cowboys and Eagles and 3 of the past 4 Philadelphia games.
Dallas and Philadelphia have been matched quite evenly the past few years with each team winning 5 of the past 10 games SU and ATS.
With Dallas minus Dez Bryant in the passing game and struggling with its ground game, the Cowboys might have a problem keeping up with the explosive offense of the Eagles in this matchup.
The Eagles will likely win and cover in this matchup, with the OVER cashing. However, Tony Romo is known for heroic endings and a fine example of that was last week’s win over New York when he threw the winning touchdown pass with just seven seconds left in the game.
