Geno Smith apologizes to Raiders fans
The Las Vegas Raiders have stumbled through the first 12 weeks of the season, finding themselves well out of the playoff picture.
Quarterback Geno Smith caught much flak for his performance, and now his actions toward fans have come under scrutiny after he was caught making an obscene gesture following the 24-10 loss to the Cleveland Browns last Sunday.
Smith issued an apology for his poor decision-making.
“I would like to apologize to the fans [and] Raider Nation,” Smith said Wednesday via ESPN. “I made a poor judgment out of frustration. And that’s not an excuse. I’ve got to be better than that and hold myself to a higher standard. In that moment, I didn’t. I’m sincerely apologetic and very sorry for doing that.
“I just want to make it known that those things will never happen from me again.”
The Raiders have struggled to find any semblance of success this season, dropping their last five games, which has pushed them to a 2-9 record. Smith has been at the center of the issues as his play hasn’t been anywhere near what was hoped after Las Vegas acquired him over the offseason.
