Jerry West praises Clippers coach Doc Rivers’ performance this season
The L.A. Clippers seem to be a sinking ship. The team’s brass appears to have come to the conclusion that it is time for a rebuilding process to begin. As if trading Chris Paul to the Houston Rockets wasn’t a big enough indication of the team’s intentions. The Clippers have now parted ways with superstar Blake Griffin and may not be done yet.
Along with two blockbuster trades, the Clippers have dealt with an endless string of injuries. All while the team battles to stay in the playoff hunt in the Western Conference. Jerry West, who joined the team last summer, has been impressed with the work head coach Doc Rivers has done considering the circumstances in Los Angeles, transcription via Pro Basketball Talk.
“He’s done of the best coaching I’ve ever seen this year. He and I communicate a lot…
“We’ve had so many injuries this year and when we came out we felt this team was going to surprise people and win a lot games and pretty soon you look around at it looks like a hospital ward and the job he has done to keep these guys playing has been fantastic…
“The only people who say Doc Rivers job is not safe is the media. This is where I think it is grossly unfair for coaches. Sometimes a coaches body of work is forgotten when things do not go well.†This guy might be a candidate for Coach of the Year.â€
Trade Deadline
With Griffin now playing for the Detroit Pistons and Paul in Houston, not to mention the shaky future of DeAndre Jordan and Lou Williams in Los Angeles, the team doesn’t have the best odds to compete in a highly competitive conference the rest of the way this season.
Leading up to Feb. 8, the Clippers will be a team to watch. Will they decide to make any more moves ahead of the NBA trade deadline? Jordan continues to surface in rumors and full rebuild might be underway.
