Kurt Rambis On Knicks’ Struggles: ‘We’re All Frustrated’
Earlier in the 2015-16 NBA season, the New York Knicks appeared to be on the verge of finally turning the corner with a promising young rookie that could end up being the future face of the franchise. The emergence of Kristaps Porzingis seemed to have the Knicks on the right track, but now they’ve slipped back into their losing ways even after the firing of head coach Derek Fisher.
Interim head coach Kurt Rambis was recently asked about the team’s current struggles and whether or not Phil Jackson is getting frustrated with the lack of progress moving forward. Rambis said the following about the topic of the team’s struggles and how Jackson isn’t the only one frustrated via Ian Begley of ESPN:
“We’re all frustrated,” interim head coach Kurt Rambis said after the Knicks held a light workout at their practice facility Monday. “If you’re a competitive athlete, I don’t know how you can lose games at any point in time and be OK with it. So nobody in this organization is OK with where we’re at.”
As of Feb. 29, the Knicks are 11 games below .500 with a record of 25-36. New York is quickly headed in a downward spiral with the team having won only 3 of their last 17 games.
The team is surrounded by speculation for all angles as usual with talk about who may be the next head coach and if superstar Carmelo Anthony wants to stay in New York for a potentially long rebuilding process. Anthony has a no-trade clause in his contract and could try to force his way out in the offseason with the Knicks possibly considering the prospect of a trading with Porzingis turning into a legitimate star in the Big Apple.
New York isn’t completely out of the running for the postseason, but the writing appears to be on the wall regarding the Knicks missing the playoffs yet again. Drastic changes may follow if the team can’t end the season with a strong finish.
