Mountain West: Fresno State vs. Nevada Preview

NCAA Football: Fresno State at San Diego State

Undefeated Fresno State is not only sitting atop the West Division of Mountain West, they are also ranked No. 16 in the nation and are on track to being a Bowl buster.  A loss to Nevada tomorrow night could ruin all that, though.

The Bulldogs enjoyed two blowout victories before last week when they were taking to overtime by San Diego State.  They still walked away with a 35-28 win after a 1-yard run by Marteze Waller.  With this win Fresno State is now on a 12-game regular-season win streak.  That win streak is the third longest in the nation.  They have also won nine straight in conference play.

In their game against San Diego State, Bulldogs QB Derek Carr showed some weakness.  Carr, who had put up 400-plus yard games in three of his last four outings was held to just 298 yards on passing.  He also went 35-57 in completions. Fresno States run game was also contained 43 yards.  They averaged around 240 rush yards per game over their last three.  San Diego threw the Bulldogs offense off track thanks to some relentless blitzing.

Regardless the Bulldogs sill escaped with an unblemished record.  Now Nevada will take their turn and taking a run at Fresno State.

Nevada on the other hand has not had a victory for the entire month of October.  Saturday night they will either walk out as spoilers to the Bulldogs BCS Bowl hopes or on a four-game losing streak. Nevada is coming off a rough 27-22 home game loss to UNLV.

Nevada has been struggling defensively.  In their last three losses they are given up an average of over 525 yards. On offense, QB Cody Fajardo normally controls the game well.  He average around 350 yards per game, but he will have Ejiro Ederaine chasing him down in this game.   Ederaine recorded a career-high 10 tackles and two sacks against San Diego State last week and returned a fumble for 78 yards and a touchdown in the fourth quarter.

Fresno State are the huge favorites in this game with a -20.5 point spread and a moneyline that hovers around -1400 at most sportsbooks.  The game is on Saturday, November 2.  It starts at 8p.m. ET.  You can catch it on ESPNU.
