NBA Draft Prospect Lonzo Ball Will Not Be Working Out For The Boston Celtics
The 2017 NBA Draft is less than a month away. With the NBA Draft Lottery now in the books, top prospects in the draft have a better sense of where they may land come draft day on June 22. UCLA’s Lonzo Ball is one of those players, and it appears he’s doing everything within his power to land with the Los Angeles Lakers at No. 2 overall next month.
Lonzo’s father, LaVar Ball, has made a lot of headlines over the past few months and caused quite a media storm by declaring that his son will only be working out for the Lakers after the results of the lottery last week.
Now, Lonzo and LaVar are making good on their word with the Ball family letting the Boston Celtics, who own the top pick in next month’s draft, that they will not be working out for them in the weeks leading up to draft day, via ESPN’s Chris Forsberg:
Boston Celtics president of basketball operations Danny Ainge confirmed Thursday that Lonzo Ball’s camp has informed the Celtics he will not work out for them prior to the NBA draft.
With Lonzo not interested in going No. 1 to the Celtics, Boston will likely focus all their efforts on the other top prospects. Washington’s Markelle Fultz is currently considered to be the best talent available once the Celtics are on the clock and the pairing may be inevitable.
Along with Fultz, the Celtics will certainly do their homework on De’Aaron Fox (Kentucky), Jayson Tatum (Duke), and Josh Jackson (Kansas). All three of these players are expected to be drafted at some point within the first five picks of the draft. Fultz and Ball are widely considered to be the top two prospects with these three being a tossup at No. 3.
