NBA Rumors: Pistons May Have Made Andre Drummond Available Via Trade
The NBA trade deadline is a week away. The NBA All-Star Weekend gets underway on Friday with the league’s best and brightest going head-to-head in New Orleans, but general managers around the NBA will be hard at work trying to improve rosters.
One team that may be active before the trade deadline is the Detroit Pistons. Although Reggie Jackson has been the biggest name floated around as a potential trade candidate in Detroit, Andre Drummond may also be available, according to Zach Lowe of ESPN:
Detroit has quietly explored the trade market for each of its franchise centerpieces, according to sources across the league, and come away disappointed with the potential return. (Van Gundy himself has said anyone is available for “the right price.â€)
Any Drummond deal at the deadline is an extreme long shot, but Jackson remains in play for Minnesota, Orlando, New Orleans, or some mystery destination.
Currently, the Pistons are sitting in the eighth spot in the Eastern Conference with a record of 27-30. Stan Van Gundy and company may believe they are a player or two away from being a force to be reckoned in the playoffs prompting a move before the trade deadline.
Drummond, who is arguably one of the elite big men in the NBA, continues to produce at a high level for the Pistons. The 23-year-old manchild is averaging 14.7 points, 13.9 rebounds, 1.7 steals, and 1.2 blocks per game.
Obviously, any team in need of a boost in the frontcourt would be love to have a player like Drummond on their roster. Unfortunately, it will likely take a sizable trade package to acquire the UConn product.
Jackson, however, may be on the move before Feb. 23. The phones in Detroit will be busy, especially if an opposing feels they have what it takes to intrigue the Pistons with a trade offer for Drummond.
