Anthony Davis wants Lakers to trade for ‘another big’

As the February trade deadline inches closer, the focus around the Los Angeles Lakers sits on making another significant move.

Star big man Anthony Davis ignited that discussion by saying he wants the front office to add another big man so that he can return to playing more power forward than center.

“I think we need another big,” Davis told ESPN‘s Shams Charania this week. “I feel like I’ve always been at my best when I’ve been the 4, having a big out there.”

Davis mentioned that the Lakers’ 2020 championship featured him playing more power forward in lineups because JaVale McGee and Dwight Howard were paired with him in the frontcourt.

“We know it worked when we won a championship with JaVale [McGee] and Dwight [Howard] at the 5 and I’m at the 4,” Davis told Charania.

It’s no secret that the 31-year-old desires that change, as he has repeatedly voiced over the last few seasons. Davis has repeatedly made it clear that he wants to return to playing more power forward minutes so that he can be a more effective factor.

The Lakers have been linked to Utah Jazz’s Walker Kessler, but reports indicate that the Jazz continue to stick to a high asking price. Outside of that, Washington Wizards’ Jonas Valanciunas remains an option, but there hasn’t been any significant movement toward it.

Indiana Pacers’ Myles Turner may also become an option once again, as The Athletic’s Jovan Buha suggested that the organization may not want to pay him $30 million a year after his contract expires this season.

All of that should make the next few weeks interesting to watch in Los Angeles.
