Anthony Davis Breaks Silence on Wizards Move

The Washington Wizards are heading into next season with high hopes behind their revamped core group led by their star duo of Trae Young and Anthony Davis.

Although Davis’ long-term future beyond next season is unclear, he voiced that he is ready to help make the Wizards a contending team in the East.

“When the trade happened, and I got here, I’ve said this place is not what people make it seem,” Davis said via ESPN. “It’s a testament to the organization, the coaching staff, the players, everybody here. I want to be able to have fun where I am. I want to be able to compete where I am. I want to be able to learn wherever I am — and this organization has that.”

The Wizards acquired Davis before February’s trade deadline in an eight-player trade. However, the 33-year-old didn’t play a game after the move as he was recovering from a finger sprain on his non-shooting hand and a groin strain.

Davis figures to play a significant role for the Wizards next season as a two-way factor as the defensive anchor and offensive center point alongside Young. When healthy, he remains one of the league’s top big men behind his elite defense and scoring prowess.

However, injuries have heavily impacted his availability over the last couple of seasons. In his brief tenure with the Mavericks, he played only 29 games, including 20 games this past season, before being traded to the Wizards.

Davis will have plenty of motivation to prove his worth next season, as he will be in the second year of his three-year, $175.3 million extension, which includes a $62.7 million player option for the 2027-28 campaign.
