Celtics’ Jaylen Brown Hit With Major Fine After Explosive Referee Comments
The NBA has fined Boston Celtics forward Jaylen Brown $50,000 after he accused officials of holding “an agenda” toward him in the first-round series loss to the Philadelphia 76ers.
During a recent Twitch stream following the playoff exit, Brown voiced his displeasure with the foul calling with him, as he had 10 offensive fouls, which was twice as many as any other player.
“Every good basketball player does this. What are y’all talking about? They clearly had an agenda,” Brown said via ESPN. “If Jaylen does this move, call the offensive foul and follow him every time. I don’t know if it’s because I pissed the refs off. I’ve been critical about them, and I called them out a bunch of times. So, they were like, ‘You know what, I got you in the playoffs. Watch this.’ [Because] that’s exactly what they did.
“It’s clearly an agenda. Look at the same move. Some referees that if I had to choose, if I had to, like, say there’s some referees that need to be investigated. We had three of them in the last three games.”
These latest criticisms of the officials come a few months after he was previously fined $35,000 in January due to his two-minute postgame rant regarding officiating following the Celtics’ loss to the San Antonio Spurs.

Brown’s frustrations with the referees in the first-round series against the 76ers can likely be attributed to the team’s shortcomings, losing a 3-1 series lead and falling short in Game 7 at home.
Nonetheless, the Celtics are heading into the offseason eyeing a roster retool or minor tweaks to put them back in NBA title contention next year.
