Celtics superstar Jayson Tatum is managing an ankle injury
Boston Celtics forward Jayson Tatum suffered a left ankle injury during Monday’s win over the Sacramento Kings.
The injury occurred in the third quarter after Kings big man Domantas Sabonis fouled Tatum on a 3-point attempt, resulting in him stepping on Sabonis’ foot.
Tatum immediately went down in significant pain, but he was able to stay in and finish the game. He finished with 25 points and voiced after that he was fine and that his ankle was a little sore.
Head coach Joe Mazzulla aired that the Celtics are not concerned about Tatum’s ankle.
“He seems to be doing OK,” Mazzulla said via ESPN. “I didn’t see the play, but they made the right call. Fortunate that he was able to shoot the free throws. [He’s] taking care of it right now.”
The Celtics don’t appear to be concerned about Tatum’s long-term even if he misses some time.
The 27-year-old is putting together a productive campaign, ranking fifth with 27.1 points, 8.7 rebounds, and 6.0 assists while shooting 45.5 percent from the floor and 35.2 percent from beyond the arc.

If he were to miss any time, Jaylen Brown would step in as the primary scorer. Meanwhile, Derrick White, Peyton Pritchard, and Kristaps Porzingis will help fill the void left by Tatum.
The Celtics are in a promising spot, sitting comfortably in second place in the Eastern Conference standings with a 53-19 record, five games behind the top-seeded Cleveland Cavaliers.
Boston has won their last six straight games, including nine out of the previous 10 contests.
