Clippers Issue Strong Statement Amid Kawhi Leonard Trade Investigation
The LA Clippers’ blockbuster trade of star forward Kawhi Leonard to the Toronto Raptors is on hold as the NBA continues its investigation into whether the Clippers circumvented the salary cap.
LA had agreed to a trade with the Raptors on June 30, in which it sent the two-time NBA Finals MVP in exchange for Brandon Ingram, Gradey Dick, unprotected first-round draft selections in 2031 and 2033, a first-round pick swap, and two second-round selections.
However, since the NBA has yet to conclude its investigation into the matter, everything has been left at a standstill. The Clippers have publicly stated that no wrongdoing has occurred on their end and that they have remained transparent throughout the entire process.
“We recognize the uncertainty this has created and the impact it has had on our team, our fans, the Raptors organization, their fans, and the players whose futures remain affected while this process continues,” the Clippers said in their statement via ESPN. “We remain confident that, when the facts are evaluated fairly and thoroughly, the NBA will confirm exactly what we have said from the beginning: We have not done what we are accused of doing.”
The entire situation centers on whether the Clippers funneled money to Leonard through his $28 million endorsement deal with the now-bankrupt green banking company Aspiration. Team owner Steve Ballmer, who had invested $60 million into the company, stated that he had no knowledge of Leonard’s deal with them.

Time will tell if the Clippers and Leonard will be cleared of punishment.
