Grizzlies’ Jaylen Wells will miss the rest of the season
The Memphis Grizzlies will be without forward Jaylen Wells for the rest of the season after breaking his wrist and suffering a concussion and facial laceration.
The injuries occurred during Tuesday’s game against the Charlotte Hornets after he attempted a dunk and was bumped into Hornets’ guard KJ Simpson, which caused him to lose his balance and land on the ground awkwardly, hitting his head on the court.
Wells put together a promising rookie campaign, averaging 10.4 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 1.7 assists while shooting 42.5 percent from the floor and 35.2 percent from beyond the arc in 79 games.
Memphis expects Wells to make a full recovery.
The Grizzlies enter the season finale with their playoff fate out of their hands, currently sitting in the eighth spot in the play-in tournament.
Memphis could move into the seventh spot and host a play-in game by beating the Dallas Mavericks, while the Minnesota Timberwolves could lose to the Utah Jazz.
The Grizzlies’ second half of the season has been nothing short of disappointing. They fell from one of the top Western Conference playoff spots to potentially not securing a postseason position from the play-in tournament.

Memphis has dropped nine of its last 13 games, which included firing head coach Taylor Jenkins last week.
The Grizzlies will likely have to play a road game in the play-in tournament to secure the seventh overall spot. Depending on that result, it could force them to host another play-in game to maintain the eighth seed.
