Lakers legend Kobe Bryant’s old locker sells for record-setting price
Lakers legend Kobe Bryant’s home locker used from 2003-04 to his final season, was auctioned for a record-setting $2.9 million.
“Kobe Bryant’s locker is not merely a piece of memorabilia,” Brahm Wachter, Sotheby’s head of modern collectibles, said in a statement via ESPN. “But a profound relic from one of basketball’s most iconic figures. Today’s price highlights not only Kobe’s enduring legacy but also the exceptional nature of this unique item.”

The locker bidding started at $750,00, but the last four bids raised the price to over $3 million. A portion of the sales profit will go directly to the Los Angeles Lakers Youth Foundation.
The sale price makes it the third-most expensive item sold of Bryant-related memorabilia. It only sits behind a game-used, autographed, and photo-matched jersey from his rookie season, which was sold for $3.69 million back in 2021. The highest-selling item was his signed, game-used, and photo-matched jersey from his lone MVP campaign for the 2007-08 season, which sold for $5.6 million. That represents the second-highest price ever paid for a basketball jersey.

An unnamed maintenance worker saved Bryant’s locker from demolition during the Staple Center’s 2018 renovations. The locker was then sold to a private collector, who was able to reunite it with the five-time NBA champion’s nameplate.
The price for the memorabilia shouldn’t be that surprising given Bryant’s reputation as one of the NBA’s greatest players. His items are highly sought after, which only further raises the selling price point.
