Mavs’ Anthony Davis won’t require surgery

Dallas Mavericks star big man Anthony Davis won’t require surgery on his injured left hand after meeting with his physician.

Davis is expected to be out for at least six weeks to recover from ligament damage, which would put him at a post-All-Star break return this season.

The 32-year-old has missed a sizable chunk of the season, playing in only 20 games, where he’s averaging a double-double with 20.4 points and 11.1 rebounds, along with 2.8 assists and 1.7 blocks, while shooting 50.6 percent from the floor and 27.0 percent from beyond the arc.

The Mavericks hold a 10-10 record with him in the lineup and a 5-15 mark with him off the floor. Dallas is reportedly reopening trade talks for the 10-time All-Star ahead of next month’s trade deadline.

He is in the first year of his three-year, $175.3 million extension, which includes a $62.7 million player option for the final year of the 2027-28 campaign.

Although Davis is out due to injury, the Mavericks have reportedly ramped back up trade talks around moving him. He remains one of the league’s top big men when healthy as a strong two-way factor, as a dominant rim protector and strong scoring asset.

Dallas is on the rebuild, with every intention of putting together the best roster, promising rookie Cooper Flagg, who has showcased that he is the real deal in his short time in the league. Flagg is the future of the franchise, and if moving Davis helps improve the roster for the long haul, a new NBA home could be in his future soon.
