Nuggets’ Nikola Jokic passes Kareem Abdul-Jabbar in prestigious category
Denver Nuggets star center Nikola Jokic once again put himself in the record books by becoming the league’s all-time leader in assists for a center.
Jokic achieved this mark in Thursday’s 126-115 win over the Orlando Magic after posting his 13th triple-double of the season with 23 points, 13 assists, and 11 rebounds.
The three-time league MVP surpassed Hall of Famer Kareem Abdul-Jabbar for the all-time mark. In response to the accolade, Jokic took a humorous approach.
“I always say those things are something for after career,” Jokic said via Joe Rush of Forbes Sports. “I think the legacy for after career that I’m gonna look back and, on the porch drinking beer, and telling the lies to my kids.”
Clearly, Jokic’s remarks are gest, but it shouldn’t overshadow his appreciation for reaching this historic feat. He has proven to be arguably the best passing big man the league has ever seen.
Jokic is racking up assist numbers at a remarkable pace that has put him among the league leaders over the last several seasons. He is currently leading the league with 10.7 assists per game while averaging a triple-double with 29.4 points and 12.1 rebounds, which is also first in the NBA.

If he stays at that pace, he could be on his way to earn yet another MVP award as the Nuggets sit nearly the top of the league with a 20-7 record.
Jokic has proven to be a one-of-a-kind player due to his scoring prowess and exceptional court vision as a passer, despite playing a frontcourt position.
