Warriors’ Steve Kerr says it was a ‘no-brainer’ to re-sign Draymond Green
After weeks of speculation, the Golden State Warriors brought back former All-Star forward Draymond Green on a new four-year, $100 million deal.
The move came with little surprise due to Green’s importance to the team’s success and roster continuity. Head coach Steve Kerr took it a step further by calling the move a “no-brainer.”

“Given that he plays so well with Steph [Curry] and Klay [Thompson], it was really a no-brainer to try to bring him back,” Kerr said Friday via ESPN. “And so I’m glad that it all checked out and it all worked out.”
Beyond the obvious roster fit, Green serves as a crucially important piece on both ends of the floor. He is the team’s anchor defensively behind his ability to defend multiple positions while he’s the team’s vocal leader.
Offensively, his on-court chemistry with Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson helps generate a significant amount of scoring. His passing and court vision are vital in helping the Warriors function at the highest level.

Green’s overall production may not match the $25 million average annual salary in his contract, but it’s his impact on the Warriors’ play that is irreplaceable. On top of that, as long as Curry and Thompson remain in Golden State, it made all the sense in the world to keep the core group together.
The Warriors will have some notable adjustments to make next season with Chris Paul now aboard, but keeping Green for the long haul will serve much greater importance moving forward.
