Willie Cauley-Stein has agreed to sign with the Warriors
The Golden State Warriors have undergone much change to the roster this offseason that has been highlighted by Kevin Durant’s departure to the Brooklyn Nets through free agency.
However, it hasn’t stopped the front office from retooling the team that has seen them add several new players to the mix. The latest being former Sacramento Kings big man Willie Cauley-Stein on a one-year deal worth just over the veteran’s minimum, according to ESPN.
Free-agent center Willie Cauley-Stein will sign with the Golden State Warriors, a league source told ESPN’s Zach Lowe, confirming multiple reports.
The deal is worth slightly above the minimum salary, a league source told Lowe.
Cauley-Stein has developed in a highly dependable big man that brings much-needed size to the Warriors’ frontcourt that has been largely lacking over the last couple of years. He has proven to be a major factor on the glass while showing his ability to be a strong asset as a rim protector at times.
He will likely compete with big man Kevon Looney for playing time at the center position with a chance to start. This move also likely takes the Warriors out of the picture to bring back DeMarcus Cousins, who hasn’t received much interest in the open market for his services in free agency.
Golden State has been a highly active team since the offseason began continuing to remold the team with Durant out of the mix. This has seen them acquire All-Star point guard D’Angelo Russell while shipping off forward Andre Iguodala to make financial room for his arrival.
