NFL Rumors: Eagles Still Working On Draft Day Trade To Land Marcus Mariota
With only a few hours left until the start of the 2015 NFL Draft, the plot thickens with Marcus Mariota’s future hanging in the balance. The consensus seems to be that Jameis Winston will be the number one overall pick with the former Heisman trophy winner heading to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
After Winston is off the table, things will get interesting with the Tennessee Titans apparently open to trading the second pick in the draft. One team that has been consistently mentioned as a potential suitor for the second overall pick is Chip Kelly’s Philadelphia Eagles. Kelly has been building his roster in the image of his former Oregon Ducks squad and has been rather successful in his controversial endeavors thus far.
Landing Mariota, Kelly’s former star quarterback at Oregon, appears to be the goal of the Eagles franchise heading into the draft and they may be able to pull it off. According to Jim Wyatt of The Tennessean, Philadelphia continues to trade to acquire the second pick:
Continue to hear the #Eagles making a serious bid for No.2 spot. Can they convince the #Titans to trade it? NFL Draft starts in 4 hours

As the speculation continues to swirl, it seems more and more likely the Titans will trade the pick before it comes time for NFL commissioner Roger Goodell to come to the podium. There was a lot of buzz about the San Diego Chargers potentially making a move for the second overall pick with the team dangling veteran quarterback Philip Rivers as trade bait.
Although Rivers has made it clear he doesn’t want to play in Los Angeles if the Chargers move there in the near future, the team doesn’t seem to be ready to ship him out.
Needless to say, Mariota’s fate remains up in the air with there no telling where the reigning Heisman trophy winner will land on draft day. The Eagles may have a legitimate shot, but other teams could get in the mix.
