49ers bring in Christian Kirk to play alongside Mike Evans
The San Francisco 49ers suffered several brutal season-ending injuries to key players during the 2025 NFL season, which ultimately left the team unable to compete with the best of the best in the NFC during the NFL playoffs.
However, the team’s brass has been highly motivated to improve their roster ahead of the 2026 campaign and has added another important piece to the puzzle in veteran wide receiver Christian Kirk, according to ESPN.
For the second time in a week the San Francisco 49ers added a veteran to their wide receiver room, agreeing to terms on a one-year deal with Christian Kirk, a source told ESPN.
With the team set to part ways with Brandon Aiyuk and could see Jauan Jennings leave in NFL free agency, as he’s arguably the best player at the position left on the open market, the 49ers made a point of it to bring in viable targets downfield for star quarterback Brock Purdy.

Along with signing Kirk to a one-year deal, the 49ers’ brass also added star wide receiver Mike Evans, formerly of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, into the mix in the Bay Area.
For the Niners, Kirk’s addition is the latest to a receiver room that is undergoing significant renovation. The 49ers signed Mike Evans to a three-year, $42.5 million deal in the opening hours of free agency last week.
Evans will slide into the No. 1 option at wide receiver, which could pay off big for the 49ers’ offense, as the veteran wideout is as consistent as they come.
