49ers RB Tevin Coleman has ‘good chance’ to play in the Super Bowl
The San Francisco 49ers earned a trip to the Super Bowl for the first time in six years by cruising past the Green Bay Packers in the NFC Championship Game. However, it did come at a bit of a cost with running back Tevin Coleman suffering a dislocated shoulder in the contest.
Coleman suffered the injury after trying to regather his footing, which he required a cart to take him back to the locker room. Despite all that, head coach Kyle Shanahan has voiced that the team is hopeful he can play in the Super Bowl. (H/T Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk)
Shanahan said he expects Coleman will have a “good chance†of playing against the Chiefs, although he noted not to hold him to that because they are still waiting for results of an MRI.
Much of his status will hinge on the MRI, but if that comes back clean, it should give him a strong chance to get back on the field. The fact that the team is already confident about his status shows that he’s in a strong place.
If he’s unable to play in the Super Bowl, expect Raheem Mostert to carry the bulk of the workload as he did against the Packers. Mostert had a historical outing with 220 rushing yards with four rushing touchdowns. That included him become the first player to post 160 rushing yards in a half in a playoff game. The next few days will be telling of what his availability for the contest.
