Baker Mayfield on relationship with Browns: ‘We’re ready to move on’

Since the Cleveland Browns acquired Pro Bowl quarterback Deshaun Watson, it has put Baker Mayfield toward an eventual departure.

The Browns have shown no urgency in moving the Oklahoma product despite the 2022 season being less than three months away. Mayfield has voiced that he has no desire in working out a long-term future with the Browns, and is ready to play for another team.

“I think for that to happen there would have to be some reaching out,” Mayfield told reporters during his youth football camp in Norman, Oklahoma via ESPN. “But we’re ready to move on, I think — on both sides.”

Mayfield in the fifth-year option of his rookie contract. The Browns haven’t dived into trade discussions, but the Seattle Seahawks are believed to be a possible landing spot.

The Seahawks are expected to give Drew Lock the first shot at starting job, but acquiring Mayfield would provide them more depth under center.

Head coach Pete Carroll may have strong confidence in Lock, but he previously struggled to find sustained success with the Denver Broncos.

Beyond the Seahawks, there hasn’t been any other teams to emerge as a landing spot. What could also complicate the situation is Watson’s potential punishment for his off-the-field legal matters.

Reports emerged that the Browns are anticipating that their star quarterback could be suspended for the entire 2022 season. That alone could force the Browns to turn to Mayfield.

It should be noted that Cleveland recently signed Jacoby Brissett to add more quarterback depth.
