Bengals QB Joe Burrow admits he needs to ‘start stronger’ in games

The defending AFC champion Cincinnati Bengals started off on a rough note after falling short in Week 1 action against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The contest featured star quarterback Joe Burrow throwing four interceptions, including three coming in the first half alone. It marked the first time in his brief NFL career that has occurred in his first three seasons.

In the days leading up to the Week 2 matchup against the Dallas Cowboys, Burrow emphasized the importance of him limiting turnovers.

“Not my best, obviously would like to take care of the ball better,” Burrow said, via Kelsey Conway of the Cincinnati Enquirer. “But as bad as I played in the first half, I thought I battled in the second half and put us in position to win the game. So I was proud of that, but obviously gotta start stronger.”

Burrow completed 33 of 53 passes for 338 yards with two touchdowns. Despite his turnover struggles, the Bengals had several opportunities to pull out the win over their longtime division rivals.

Burrow led a late-game touchdown drive that could have seen the Bengals take the lead, but kicker Evan McPherson had his extra-point attempt blocked. The 25-year-old led his team down the field in overtime to set up a 29-yard field goal attempt, but McPherson missed the try.

The Bengals now hold a golden opportunity to bounce back against the Cowboys, who are dealing with quarterback Dak Prescott out of the lineup for at least the next four weeks.
