Chiefs’ Travis Kelce considering retirement from NFL

Since the Kansas City Chiefs fell short of becoming the first NFL team to win three straight Super Bowls, the focus has centered around star tight end Travis Kelce’s future.

The future first-ballot Hall of Famer voiced on the “New Heights’ podcast that he will take some time before deciding whether to continue playing or head into retirement.

“I know everybody wants to know whether I’m playing next year, and right now, I’m just kicking everything down the road. I’m kicking every can I can down the road. I’m not making any crazy decisions,” Kelce said via ESPN.

Kelce’s emotions are likely not in a place to make that significant decision after losing the Super Bowl. He likely wants to give himself time to decompress to gather clarity regarding his playing future.

Before Super Bowl 59, Kelce repeatedly stated that he planned on playing another year, but his tone has since changed.

“I’ve been fortunate over the past five, six years — I’ve played more football than anybody,” Travis Kelce said. “It’s because of the people that are in that building. The fact that we keep going to these AFC championships and these Super Bowls, that means I’m playing an extra three games more than everybody else in the entire league.

“That’s a lot of wear and tear on your body, and it’s a lot of time spent in the building, focusing on your craft, focusing on the task at hand and every challenge that you set up for yourself.”

Ultimately, Kelce should decide in the coming weeks as the Chiefs head into the offseason looking to ramp up the roster for another Super Bowl push.
