Colts QB Andrew Luck will have no restrictions during training camp
In the last few months, there has been a notable uptick in the recovery process for Indianapolis Colts star quarterback Andrew Luck from surgically-repaired right shoulder.
With the start of training camp just around the corner, general manager Chris Ballard has voiced that there will be no restriction placed on Luck in any manner, according to Mike Wells of ESPN.
“Andrew is an elite competitor and a pretty rare one,” Ballard said. “I think we’ve seen that during his career. I think it’s more of playing live football again. I don’t think there’s any mental restrictions. I think it’s more of getting the live reps versus live people. That’s the timing, getting used to moving in the pocket. All those are the things you have to get used to.”
This is yet another promising step forward for Luck in his quest to return to the field for the 2018 campaign. All indications have pointed towards him being able to take the field for Week 1 against the Cincinnati Bengals on Sept. 9.
The Colts have operated with that assumption for much of the offseason with their roster moves along with the hiring of Frank Reich as the head coach. The front office has voiced nothing but optimism concerning the situation with Luck continuing to ramp up his activity in the offseason workouts.
At the same time, the Colts are taking the precautionary approach with the entire process given the player and the significance of the injury. What should be telling of where he stands at physically will be his involvement in training camp in the coming days.
