Cowboys star QB Dak Prescott dealing with ankle soreness
As the preseason opener inches closer, the Dallas Cowboys held out Pro Bowl quarterback Dak Prescott from Friday’s light practice due to ankle soreness.
The Cowboys are describing the move as a precaution to avoid any setbacks ahead of the 2024 season. Beyond that, Prescott wasn’t expected to play on Sunday against the Rams. This shouldn’t come as much of a surprise since he hasn’t played in a single preseason game since before 2020.

The 31-year-old has participated in much of training camp, which will continue once the team feels he’s past his ankle ailment. All of that comes after Prescott was seen wearing a walking boot last month due to a right foot sprain.
He is heading into a crucial campaign as he’s in the final year of his four-year, $160 million deal. The Cowboys haven’t expressed any urgency to get a new contract in place before the start of the season.
Meanwhile, Prescott hasn’t shied away from the discussion that he could be entering his final year with Dallas. His preference is to stay, but he has kept his mind open to the possibility that he could be playing elsewhere next year.

Team owner Jerry Jones has been quite vocal about not having any urgency to get new deals in place for Prescott, star wideout CeeDee Lamb or All-Pro pass rusher Micah Parsons.
All that has left the sense that significant change could be on the horizon in Dallas next offseason. Until then, the focus remains on the 2024 campaign.
