Davante Adams supports Raiders QB Derek Carr amid benching
The Las Vegas Raiders are heading into Week 16 action on the verge of being eliminated from playoff contention.
Despite the Raiders still holding a slim chance, the franchise has elected to sit former Pro Bowl quarterback Derek Carr for the final two regular-season games. Offseason addition Jarrett Stidham will be the starter for the last two weeks in place of Carr.
The move has come with plenty of strong reactions, including star wide receiver Davante Adams voicing that he wouldn’t be with Las Vegas if it wasn’t for his former college teammate’s presence.
“Obviously, I don’t think anybody was excited about it in here,” Adams said via ESPN. “You know, him being one of my really good friends and the reason why I came here in the first place, I mean, I wouldn’t be here right now if he wasn’t here, so I think everybody knows how I feel about him.
“And with that said, there’s a process of how things go, and I’m not going to sit here and go on and on, but obviously I support my guy and we’ve got to finish the season out the best way we can possible with all things considered.”
The Raiders’ decision goes far deeper than throwing in the towel on the team’s playoff hopes, as there are contract stipulations that are in play.

Carr had signed a three-year, $121.5 million extension last offseason, but he can be cut for only a $5.6 million salary-cap hit if he’s released within three days of the Super Bowl. If not, his $32.9 million salary for next season and $7.5 million of his 2024 salary will be fully guaranteed if he is injured.
The writing may be on the wall that Carr has played his last game in a Raiders’ uniform.
