Dolphins release veteran running back Sony Michel
The Miami Dolphins have spent much of the offseason restructuring their roster ahead of the 2022 campaign.
Those efforts featured the team bringing aboard several new faces to help push the franchise forward. Among those was veteran running back Sony Michel to help further fortify their backfield.

However, Michel’s tenure in Miami has quickly come to a close as the team elected to release the Georgia product as part of the final cuts to reach the 53-man roster.
Michel previously inked a one-year, $2.1 million deal with the Dolphins in May. He had played a key part for the Los Angeles Rams last offseason, where he became the starter in Week 13, which saw him tally 540 rushing yards in the final six weeks of the season.
In his first four NFL seasons, Michel has recorded 3,137 rush8ing yards and 18 touchdowns. The Dolphins’ decision to cut him likely came due to the team already possessing a deep backfield that includes Chase Edmonds, Myles Gaskin, Raheem Mostert, and Salvon Ahmed.

Although Michel is on the open market less than two weeks before the 2022 season begins, he should have no problem finding another team to join. He is a proven factor in the running game that can help provide much-needed depth to any backfield.
He may likely have to wait a few weeks into the season to find a new NFL home as teams are making their cuts to their final regular-season rosters. Nonetheless, he should latch onto another franchise shortly.
