Former Saints QB Derek Carr would unretire for one reason

Former Pro Bowl quarterback Derek Carr may not be done playing in the NFL after all.

Carr said during the most recent episode of his “Home Grown” podcast with his brother, David Carr, that special circumstances could get him back on the field.

“Would I do it? Yes. Would I do it for anybody? Absolutely not,” Carr said via ESPN. “Would I do it. Absolutely, I would. I told you two things: I have to be healthy, and I’d want a chance to win a Super Bowl. And obviously, that’s a tough thing to find. That’s hard to do. That’s not easy.

“The 34-year-old had stepped into retirement last May while with the New Orleans Saints after he had suffered a labral tear and “significant degenerative changes to his rotator cuff.”

Carr initially tried to play through the injury but chose to hang it up. Since he retired with two years left on his Saints contract, any organization interested in acquiring Carr would have to work out trade compensation with New Orleans.

In his last season, he threw for 2,145 yards with 15 touchdowns and five interceptions in 10 games.

There is always a need for a starting quarterback of Carr’s caliber, but as he pointed out, he would want to head into a situation where he could compete for a chance to win the Super Bowl. That alone would eliminate several possible landing spots just for the sake of being a starter once again.

Time will tell if Carr will pursue an NFL comeback.
