Geno Smith wants to spend the rest of his career with the Seahawks
The Seattle Seahawks saw their 2022 season end disappointingly in convincing fashion to the San Francisco 49ers in the playoff wild card round. The loss immediately shifts the attention toward quarterback Geno Smith and his future in Seattle. Smith put forth the best campaign of his career that featured him earning his first career Pro Bowl selection after breaking the Seahawks’ single-season passing yard record and guiding the team to the playoffs.
Smith’s impressive campaign only further highlights his contract situation as he is set to become a free agent next offseason. The 32-year-old quickly made his intentions clear as he voiced that he wants to spend the rest of his career in a Seahawks’ uniform.
“I want to finish my career in Seattle,” he said via ESPN. “I want to be here. The town, the city, the team, Coach [Pete] Carroll, the organization — they all embraced me. I was a guy who probably could have been out of the league. They embraced me, and I want to repay them for that.”
Geno Smith certainly proved, at the very least, that he’s a starting-caliber NFL quarterback after his breakout year. He shined in crucial moments while providing significant stability under center that the Seahawks were uncertain they would receive after Russell Wilson’s departure.
Want $250 to bet on the NFL?
The question now becomes how much Seattle wants Smith as its future. He will command a multi-year contract that should put him in the ballpark above $20 million per season.
With free agency nearing in March, both sides will have that much-needed clarity quite soon.
