Houston Texans Make Key Calls on C.J. Stroud & Will Anderson Jr.
The Houston Texans decided to pick up the fifth-year contract options for quarterback C.J. Stroud and defensive end Will Anderson.
These moves set the table for the Texans to work out extensions with two key players for their long-term future, which can be hammered out this offseason.
Stroud is set to make $25.9 million, and Anderson will earn $21.5 million in 2027. The Texans reportedly hold priority in inking Anderson to a new deal.
Through his first three seasons, he has established himself as one of the league’s top pass rushers, earning a First-Team All-Pro selection after recording 12 sacks and 20 tackles for loss as a key part of the league’s No. 2-ranked scoring and total defense.
Since entering the league, he has garnered two Pro Bowl selections, a First Team All-Pro nod, and an NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year award. He has recorded 30 sacks, four forced fumbles, 46 tackles for loss, and 136 total tackles.

Meanwhile, Stroud has seemingly taken a step back since his standout rookie campaign. Last season, he finished 19th in passing yards, 22nd with 19 touchdown passes, and posted a quarterback rating of 61.7 in 14 games played.
Stround struggled to perform at a high level throughout the season, and all that came to a head in the playoffs, even though the Texans advanced to the Divisional Round.
He committed seven turnovers in two playoff games, with him throwing four interceptions in the 28-16 loss to the New England Patriots.
