Jets not giving up on struggling QB Zach Wilson just yet
The New York Jets’ steady fall below a .500 record has levied plenty of criticism toward second-year quarterback Zach Wilson.
The BYU product has struggled to be the consistent game-changer that the franchise hoped for, which has led to questions about his long-term future in New York. Head coach Robert Saleh has continued to push back at the notion that the team isn’t entirely behind him.
“It’s a tough thing to try to overcome, but it doesn’t take much to flip confidence. He just needs to get on a little run . . . He just needs a good string of consecutive games, quarters, plays, of putting together good football,†Saleh said via Pro Football Talk.
It’s been nothing short of a rocky 2022 campaign for Wilson, as he has come under fire for his performance and leadership. His lack of accountability for the offense’s struggles led to his benching, while his lackluster play has put the Jets in a tight bind.
He ranks 31st with 1,688 passing yards, tied for 31st with six passing touchdowns, and 28th with a 37.5 quarterback rating. Wilson posted a pair of 300-yard passing game performances but also notched fewer than 200 passing yards five times, including below 100 twice.

The Jets are in a tough spot but still hold a shot at reaching the playoffs. New York sits two games behind the Miami Dolphins for the final wildcard spot.
They no longer control their postseason fate, but if they hope to turn it around it will have to start with Wilson’s play.
