Joey Porter Sr. blasts former Steelers teammate Ben Roethlisberger
Former Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker Joey Porter Sr. recently made a claim in a podcast during Super Bowl week that quarterback Ben Roethlisberger wasn’t a good teammate.
During an appearance on Cameron Heyward’s podcast, ‘Not Just Football,’ Porter went straight to the point by voicing that he felt that Roethlisberger and James Harrison “broke the brotherhood” by criticizing their former teammates on their respective podcasts.
“[Harrison] broke the brotherhood,” Porter said via ESPN. “Then 7 [Roethlisberger] definitely broke the brotherhood. Out of anybody that should talk, he should never grab a microphone and really talk Steeler business. Because if we talk Steelers business, his ass is foul of all foul. The s— that he did is foul of all foul. He’s not a good teammate.
“Won the Super Bowl with him, but the person, he’s just not a good teammate. He knows that. Anybody in the Steelers building knows that, but we protected him because I’ve only won one Super Bowl and that was my quarterback. So do I love my quarterback? Yeah. But is he a good person? No.”
Proter was teammates with Roethlisberger for three seasons, including Super Bowl XL. However, Porter also pointed out during the podcast that he was frustrated by some of Roethlisberger’s actions as a rookie.

One of which was Roethlisberger’s refusal to sign memorabilia for teammates’ families. It was likely one of many situations that rubbed Porter the wrong way, as the Pro Bowl quarterback had a reputation for being a difficult teammate at times, as evidenced by his public criticisms of Antonio Brown and his decision not to mentor Mason Rudolph in the latter years of his career.
