Lions QB Jared Goff ‘excited’ about the future in Detroit
Earlier this week the Detroit Lions secured the long-term future of Pro Bowl quarterback Jared Goff on a four-year, $212 million contract extension.
The new deal includes a league-record $73 million signing bonus while running through the 2028 season. It also features a no-trade clause, which Goff noted as providing him the security he desired.

“It was mostly security. You can go back and forth on the numbers and whatnot, and that wasn’t really the thing that was ever something I was extremely concerned with,” Goff said via ESPN. “It was the security and the no-trade clause and all of that stuff, knowing that all that was in there and feeling secure in knowing that I can finally put that behind me and be excited about what’s to come.”
Goff earned job security after leading the Lions to their first NFC Championship Game appearance since 1991. He has been a strong source of consistency for Detroit in his first three campaigns featuring him totaling 12,258 passing yards and 78 touchdowns over that span while holding a 24-23-1 record season regular record.

He’s coming off guiding the Lions to an NFC North division title behind a 12-5 record while recording 4,575 passing yards on a career-best 67.3 completion rate with 30 touchdown passes to 12 interceptions and a 97.9 passer rating.
Goff has gone from being viewed as a bridge option under center to the long-term answer that has helped give the franchise a bright future ahead as a central piece to the puzzle.
