Lions rumored to be ready to trade Darius Slay
The Detriot Lions are coming off another campaign of falling short of reaching the playoffs.
That has pushed a plethora of rumors around the franchise as they venture into the offseason. One of which has seen chatter arise that the team is shopping around Pro Bowl cornerback Darius Slay on the trade market, according to Michael Rothstein of ESPN.
The Lions have spoken with multiple teams about a trade involving Darius Slay, but Detroit will be adamant about what it will cost to acquire the Pro Bowl cornerback, a source told ESPN Insider Adam Schefter.
There had previously been talks around the team that Slay was available, but nothing came about of it. He has been a cornerstone in their secondary over the last several years, emerging as one of the top cornerbacks in the league.
Slay is currently in the final year of his four-year, $48.1 million deal that runs through the 2020 season. The reported discussions that the Lions are having with other teams is that any trade would include working out a new contract with the 29-year-old.
What can be interpreted from the trade chatter is that Slay is nearing the end of his stay in Detroit. His addition to any other team would provide an immediate upgrade to their respective secondary as he’s still in the prime of his career with plenty of productive campaigns ahead of him.
It may just be a matter of time before the Lions finally decide to move on from Slay this offseason.
