Los Angeles Chargers entering new era without Philip Rivers
The Los Angeles Chargers are going to look wildly different this season.
Come September, they’ll be playing in SoFi Stadium, the gleaming palace the Chargers will be sharing with the Los Angeles Rams. The Bolts will also have new uniforms, arguably the nicest in the league. Finally, getting back to their basics with the powder blue.
Of course, Philip Rivers will also be changing uniforms, just to a different shade of blue.

Rivers signed a one-year, $25 million deal this offseason with the Indianapolis Colts after he and Los Angeles agreed to part company after 16 seasons. With Rivers gone, general manager Tom Telesco drafted Oregon quarterback Justin Herbert with then No. 7 overall pick. Herbert will compete with veteran Tyros Taylor this summer for the starting job.
With major change comes the hard truth of a learning curve, but there’s good news (beyond the uniforms).
Whoever wins the quarterback battle will have ample talent around them, including running back Austin Ekeler, wide receivers Keenan Allen and Mike Williams, and tight end Hunter Henry. Henry, who is playing on the franchise tag this season, assured fans during his SiriusXM Radio spot that his situation won’t be an issue.

Per NFL.com:
“I think I just look forward to the challenge of whatever it is,” Henry said. “I get to go out there and play football with guys I’ve been doing it for a couple years with now and I get another chance to go out there and do it. Whatever the situation is, I’ll be looking forward to going out there with this squad. I’m really looking forward to this team and the potential and what we have going toward this year in this 2020 season.”
Defensively, there’s talent abound. Joey Bosa and Melvin Ingram provide one of the top pass-rushing tandems in the league, Â while Denzel Perryman and rookie linebacker Kenneth Murray should be a formidable duo on the second level. In the secondary, Los Angeles is loaded with Derwin James at safety and the combination of Casey Hayward and Desmond King at corner.
While the Chargers are unquestionably facing a challenging season of change, there’s a chance Los Angeles figures out the quarterback spot in short order. Should that happen, the Chargers won’t be an easy out in those slick new duds as they try to win over a reluctant city.
