Michael Pittman agrees to three-year deal with Colts

The Indianapolis Colts secured one of their foundational pieces by agreeing to a three-year, $80 million deal with wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr.

The 26-year-old’s new contract can reach up to $71.5 million while holding $46 million guaranteed. Pittman is coming off a career-best campaign where he posted 109 catches for 1,152 receiving yards along with four touchdowns.

Over his first four campaigns, the USC product has become the Colts’ top passing game option. He has posted at least 85 catches in each of the last three seasons along with surpassing 1,000 receiving yards twice.

His 336 career receptions are the sixth-most through a player’s first four seasons with the Colts. He’s separated himself as a legitimate passing game asset behind consistent production.

Pittman will be the top target for Anthony Richardson next season as the two will be key factors alongside Pro Bowl running back Jonathan Taylor.

The Colts are moving through a rebuild but possess young talent to construct the roster around.

Indianapolis is hoping Pittman’s connection with Richardson will help him progress as a passer. The latter showcased promising play before his season-ending shoulder injury.

A significant part of his development as a passer will likely depend on his chemistry with Pittman. He holds the opportunity to become one of the league’s best young quarterbacks.

The Colts are coming off narrowly missing the playoffs after finishing the regular season with a 9-8 record. Richardson will be the key to the offensive game plan behind his dual-threat ability.

Indianapolis is hoping to end a three-year playoff drought.
