Mike Evans agrees to two-year deal to stay with Buccaneers
After months of speculation concerning his future with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, star wide receiver Mike Evans has agreed to a two-year, $52 million deal to stay with the franchise.
Evans was set to hit free agency next week but chose to remain with the team where he’s spent his entire NFL career. The $26 million annual salary places him among the highest in the league at his position.
If Evans had hit the open market, he would have likely drawn interest from several other teams in need of passing game help. The Kansas City Chiefs were reportedly interested in his services, but he likely chose to get the lucrative payday at this stage of his career.
There had been significant concern that the Buccaneers would lose Evans in free agency due to being unable to secure him to an extension last offseason.
The 30-year-old also had suggested throughout the 2023 season that he would have his options open. However, things drastically changed with the Buccaneers giving their Pro Bowl wideout the lucrative deal he desired.

Evans has produced at a high level throughout his career, holding the NFL record to start his career with at least 1,000 receiving yards in each of his first 10 seasons. He currently sits one more campaign away from tying Hall of Famer Jerry Rice for the all-time mark.
Evans is coming off posting 79 receptions for 1,255 receiving yards and 13 touchdowns, which was tied for the most last season.
The Buccaneers can move forward to build off their playoff push with their best offensive weapon remaining in place.
