NFL hot seat: 5 coaches in danger of losing their jobs
Following Gruden’s split from the Redskins, there are a number of other coaches in the NFL hot seat. We take a look at five coaches in the NFL hotseat.
5. Pat Shurmur, New York Giants
Shurmur is only in his second year with the Giants, a franchise long known to be patient and prudent. However, with Eli Manning’s time having come to an end and Daniel Jones being the start of a new era, there’s reason to think New York might move in a new direction. Ultimately, the Giants look well on their way to another lost season at 2-4. As well as that, Jones hasn’t played well in the early going, throwing six interceptions in four games. New York ownership might see this as the right time to clean house.

4. Freddie Kitchens, Cleveland Browns
Kitchens is in his first season, but to this point, things can’t be going much worse. The Browns were supposed to be a threat in the AFC after being horrific for the lat 25 years, but not much has changed. The team has made plenty of headlines off the field but few positive ones on it, sporting a 2-3 as it prepares to host the 4-1 Seattle Seahawks. Should things continue to deteriorate, it stands to reason ownership along with general manager John Dorsey could go in another direction to fix this talented roster.
3. Mike Vrabel, Tennessee Titans
Vrabel is in his second season, and the Titans are still struggling to fix the same problems which plagued them when Vrabel was hired. The quarterback play is still a raw spot for the Titans, who are looking at the final year of Marcus Mariota’s rookie deal. At this juncture, why would Tennessee’s front office want to keep Mariota, who plays more like a decent backup than a solid starter? Should the Titans miss the playoffs for the second straight year, it might be time to move on.

2. Adam Gase, New York Jets
Gase is the second first-year coach on the list, and this is an easy call. Gase came into the fold back in January when he was hired by owner Woody Johnson and general manager Mike Maccagnan. Maccagnan was then immediately fired after the draft, replaced by Joe Douglas. Douglas has no allegiance to Gase, and with him starting 0-4 and the team looking generally terrible, Douglas might see a chance to get his own guy in here. Plus, Gase was not a popular hire in New York when it was announced, so this is a perfect storm.
1. Dan Quinn, Atlanta Falcons
Not much rationale needed here. The Falcons are 1-4 and have gotten worse in each of Quinn’s seasons. Vegas believes he’s the overwhelming favorite to be the next coach fired, and it’s very hard to disagree.
