NFL power rankings: NFC going into training camp

16. Detroit Lions

This franchise needs to be rebooted. Again. The Lions have little offensive talent and the defense is a sieve. Oh, and the coach is a disaster.

15. Carolina Panthers

The Panthers are clearly rebuilding after watching Luke Kuechly retire and then releasing Cam Newton. This is going to be a long year in Charlotte.

14. New York Giants

If Daniel Jones take the next step, this could be low for the Giants. Even so, the defense is absolutely rancid.

13. Washington Redskins

Ron Rivera gives the Redskins both immediately credibility and a chance to be solid. The big question is whether the quarterback play is up to par.

12. Atlanta Falcons

The Falcons have talent offensively, but are they any good on defense and does Dan Quinn get the best from this group?

11. Chicago Bears

Mitchell Trubisky is likely losing his job to Nick Foles. This is an upgrade, but a slight one. The Bears are in need of a significant uptick in their offense.

10. Los Angeles Rams

Los Angeles needs Jared Goff to bounce back in a major way. If he doesn’t, the Rams will be lucky to win eight or nine games.

9. Arizona Cardinals

The Cardinals are going to be fun with Kyler Murray, DeAndre Hopkins, Larry Fitzgerald and Kenyan Drake on offense. If the defense can do anything, watch out.

8. Dallas Cowboys

Dallas needs to prove it. Mike McCarthy is an upgrade over Jason Garrett — who among us isn’t? — but the Cowboys have been spinning their proverbial wheels for years.

7. Minnesota Vikings

Love the roster, but Kirk Cousins is limited. Cousins is better than some believe, but not being elite will always hold Minnesota back.

6. Green Bay Packers

Aaron Rodgers might be seething at the team, but he’s still terrific. He’ll will the Packers, along with their defense, to double-digit wins.

5. Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Tom Brady and Rob Gronkowski are in the house. Tampa will be fascinating this season.

4. Seattle Seahawks

The Seahawks are loaded up offensively and the defense is good. The major question is whether the coaching allows for Russell Wilson to flourish.

3. Philadelphia Eagles

Philadelphia simply needs to stay healthy. If that happens, the Eagles are a Super Bowl contender.

2. San Francisco 49ers

The 49ers won the conference last year and are arguably better on paper. This is a clear Super Bowl favorite.

1. New Orleans Saints

The Saints have the best roster in football. They’re going to be in the mix until Drew Brees retires.
