NFL power rankings: Top 10 quarterbacks going into 2019

We’re in June, what else did you expect? It’s time for our NFL power rankings for quarterbacks in 2019. Sure, we could roll. through training camp battles, preseason prognostications and thoughts on the Week 1 spreads — and we’ll get there — but let’s keep it light for now.

Here are the top 10 quarterbacks going into 2019, regardless of age and contract.

10. Deshaun Watson, Houston Texans

Watson doesn’t have a playoff win yet, but he does have a division title under his belt through two seasons. Houston has also provided the league’s worst offensive line, allowing a league-high 62 sacks a season ago. Get him a better supporting cast, and Watson will truly take off.

9. Matt Ryan, Atlanta Falcons

Ryan might be the most under appreciated quarterback in the game. He’s a former MVP that if not for horrid play-calling and a terrible defensive collapse, would have a Super Bowl ring. It’s hard to see Ryan being a Hall of Famers, but he’s certainly one of the best going.

8. Ben Roethlisberger, Pittsburgh Steelers

Roethlisberger is in the twilight of his career, but he’s coming off a passing title in which he amassed more than 5,100 yards. The Steelers are trying to retake the AFC North, and if they do it, it will be because of Roethlisberger’s right arm.

7. Philip Rivers, Los Angeles Chargers

The deep ball isn’t there like it once was, but the 37-year-old is still a terrific talent. The Chargers are going to rise and fall with Rivers’ fortunes, even with a solid defense and ground game to go with him.

6. Aaron Rodgers, Green Bay Packers

Rodgers is a two-time MVP and a Super Bowl champion. He’s also in the conversation for most talented quarterback to ever lace up the cleats. Green Bay has been down for a few years, making people forget just how brilliant Rodgers really is.

5. Russell Wilson, Seattle Seahawks

Wilson is the most disrespected player in the game. Wilson is never throwing for 5,000 yards and 40 touchdowns, but he consistently makes plays with little around him. How many quarterbacks would have a Hall of Fame resumè with Doug Baldwin and Golden Tate as his top receivers?

4. Andrew Luck, Indianapolis Colts

Luck is finally healthy, and he’s playing like an All-Pro again. Last year, the Colts rebounded from a 1-5 start to reach the Divisional round of the postseason, largely because Luck threw for 4,593 yards and 39 touchdowns.

3. Tom Brady, New England Patriots

Brady has won six Super Bowls. He’s 42 years old and just threw for 4,355 yards and 29 touchdowns. He’s aiming to reach the Super Bowl for a fourth consecutive season. Case closed.

2. Drew Brees, New Orleans Saints

The days of Brees throwing for 5,000 yards on an annual basis are over, but he’s still one of the top throwers in the game. Last year, Brees was the MVP runner-up to the next man on our list, throwing for 32 touchdowns against five interceptions.

1. Patrick Mahomes, Kansas City Chiefs

The only guy destined for No. 1 in our NFL power rankings, Mahomes is 23 years old and the reigning MVP. After throwing for 5,097 yards and 50 touchdowns in his first year starting, it’s fair to say he appears a generational talent.
