Philip Rivers ‘grateful’ for opportunity with Colts

After more than four years since his last NFL game, Philip Rivers accomplished what many believed was unfathomable. The 44-year-old guided the Indianapolis Colts to a near road win over the Seattle Seahawks.

It is an experience that Rivers holds great appreciation for, receiving the opportunity to play in the NFL again.

“I’m grateful that I was out there, and it was a blast,” Rivers said via ESPN. “But, obviously, the emotions now are disappointment. This isn’t about me. We’ve got a team that was scrapping like crazy to try to stay alive and get in the postseason, so obviously, we’re all disappointed.

“We came up just short.”

Rivers exceeded the bar for expectations as he completed 18 of 27 passes for 120 yards with a touchdown and an interception, which occurred in the last minute of regulation.

It wasn’t a flashy performance by any means, but Rivers nearly did enough to help the Colts pull out of an impressive road win.

He led the Colts to a 10-point lead in the first half, then pushed them into range for kicker Blake Grupe to hit a 60-yard go-ahead field goal with 47 seconds left.

However, it was the Seahawks who would get the upper hand after a strong kickoff return that was followed by Sam Darnold leading his team into field goal range, where kicker Jason Myers hit a 56-yard attempt with 18 seconds left.

Rivers and the Colts will have the chance to keep their playoff chances alive on Monday night at home against the San Francisco 49ers.
