Raiders bring in another former Patriots player in QB Brian Hoyer
After a disappointing first season under head coach Josh McDaniels, the Las Vegas Raiders have spent the offseason revamping the roster.
Much of which has seen the franchise add key offensive pieces with links to McDaniels. The latest move brought another familiar face aboard with veteran quarterback Brian Hoyer inking a two-year deal with Las Vegas.
Hoyer was released by the New England Patriots before the start of free agency despite holding one more year remaining on his contract that featured $1.4 million guaranteed in 2023. He played one game last season, completing 5-of-6 passes for 37 passing yards.

The 37-year-old holds a strong connection to McDaniels as the two spent significant time together in New England. He served as the backup in five out of the last six seasons, giving him much comfort within McDaniels’ offensive scheme.
Hoyer will be the backup to Jimmy Garoppolo, who inked a three-year, $72.75 million deal with the Raiders. McDaniels has slowly brought in more connections from the Patriots into the fold.
Las Vegas recently added former wide receiver Danny Amendola to the coaching staff as a coaching/assistant/returners. Amendola played five years with the Patriots, where he played under McDaniels.
“It’s a valuable guy, if you can find the right one,” McDaniels told ESPN. “He has done it and done it at a high level. He will help our guys.”
The Raiders are hoping the shift in personnel will help push them toward playoff contention. Much of that will depend on Garoppolo’s effectiveness under center as the offensive focal point.
